| Montréal | Suzanne Blanchard Murdered on Auguste 9, 1982

Read Time:2 Minute, 56 Second

Suzanne was kidnapped on August 09, 1982 in Montreal, at the corner of St-Hubert and St-Grégoire, after being dropped off by a work colleague, around 6h15pm. She was going to pick up her car at her ex-boyfriend’s garage, La Garagerie, 900 St-Grégoire street, approximately 50 metres from where she was dropped off, at rush hour. Suzanne never picked up her car. Her colleague was interviewed at length and he was never considered a suspect.

On décember, 13th, 1982, 4 days after her disappearance, Suzanne’s body was found floating in Lac des Deux Montagnes/Lac St-Louis, 200 meters from the shore of Godin Park, in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec. She was wearing a light beige sundress, made in India.  Her throat had two penetrating wounds. Masking tape was wrapped around her neck. She also had severe wounds to the head and bruises on her face. Her hands had cuts made by a sharp object and demonstrated her attempts to defend herself. The autopsy report indicated her cause of death to be drowning. She was most likely unconscious, but alive when thrown in the lake. Suzanne knew how to swim and could have done so as she was not tied or restricted in any way. There was no evidence of a sexual assault. Suzanne was estimated to have been in the water for 2.5 to 3 days.

The main and only suspect at the time, and who remains the only suspect today, refused to submit himself to a polygraph test.

According to an article that appeared in the newspaper:  ‘’Allo Police’’ on September 05th, 1982 on page 33, Jean-Claude Taillandier, a friend of Suzanne, is the one who reported her missing, on the day her body was recovered here’s the original line: ‘’On sait que vendredi le 13, un ami de Mme Blanchard, un certain Jean-Claude Taillandier a signalé sa disparition. Et ça, presqu’au même moment ou le cadavre était retiré des eaux du Lac St-Louis. Cet homme d’affaires aurait été interrogé par les policiers et il a été libéré par la suite.’’

Suzanne was the single mother of 2 teenagers: Stéphane, 14, and Marie-Claude 12. The children were gone to camp, from August 07 to August 20th, when the crime happened. Their father, Yves BLanchard, separated for Suzanne for 5 years, was cleared as a suspect. Suzanne and Yves had a very amicable relationship. She worked in the film industry and tv commercials. She worked for PNMD, at the time of her murder. She had also briefly worked for the Canadian National Film Board in Montréal (ONF- 1980), and les Films 24 in Old Montréal (1978-80).
