Marie-Paule Rochette (aka: Lorraine Chénier) went missing from the Prévost Sanatorium on January 18th, 1953, at approximately 6pm. She was wearing a nightgown and carrying a suitcase. She followed a man who came to pick her up. She was only supposed to be discharged on January 19th (as authorized by 2 psychiatrists), but a nurse allowed her to leave with this unidentified man.

On October 05th, 1953, the body of a murdered woman was found at the Hydro Québec Dam, in the Rivière-des-Prairies, 11 km east of the Sanatorium.

On the 25th of October, 1953, or shortly thereafter, her teeth were identified as those of Marie-Paule Rochette, by Dr. Paul Chaloult, her dentist. Dr. Chaloult was Marie-Paule’s employer and she was also his patient. Marie-Paule’s brother, Raymond, also positively identified her body, even in its advanced state of putrefaction.

The case was handled by the Montreal Police (SPVM), but the case of the unidentified murdered woman, found in October 1953 was handled by the Provincial Police (SQ). As such, her identity was never officially confirmed by the SQ. The murderer also remains at large.

Any information could help in identifying this woman and resolving her murder can be transmitted to the Montreal Police (SPVM) at: 514 393-1133. www.infocrimemontreal.ca
