On October 3, 1972, Camille Murray, 64, disappeared on the mountain west of the village of St-René de Matane. He had set up his trailer on a lot belonging to Paul Gauthier, an acquaintance, to practice hunting. Lionel, his eldest son, noticed his disappearance. The Matane police officers, helped by several citizens who knew Camille Murray, participated in a fight in the forest between St-Vianney and the Ste-Paule bridge.
Camille’s second son obtained the use of a helicopter for half a day to fly over the land and forest of St-René. Neither Camille nor his .22 caliber rifle were ever found. Since Camille’s disappearance, some people in the area have admitted to having information in this case, but they have recanted or remained vague when questioned again. According to his daughter, someone forced her father to sign a paper renouncing his house. Camille Murray is listed as missing, but it is suspected that he was the victim of a homicide.
