Read Time:1 Minute, 25 Second

On April 17, 2021, David Richer, a 33-year-old man from Val-Saint-Gilles, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, left his home on foot. He was last seen in his village that day, but was subsequently lost. Concerned about his prolonged absence, his family and friends quickly reported him missing to the authorities.

David was approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed 165 pounds. He had short brown hair, green eyes—a shade between green and gray—and was likely wearing clothing appropriate for the region’s spring-like temperatures. His sudden disappearance sparked considerable concern within the community, and a search was launched by the Sûreté du Québec, with the support of volunteers and local residents.

After several weeks without news, on May 8, 2021, David’s body was found in a wooded area, about three kilometers from his home. The discovery was confirmed a few days later, on May 14, by the Sûreté du Québec. Investigators found no signs of foul play. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and the coroner’s office is conducting investigations to better understand what may have happened.

David’s death deeply affected his family and the residents of Val-Saint-Gilles. The void left by his disappearance is immense, and several questions remain unanswered. His story is a reminder of the importance of disappearances deemed non-criminal, yet which nevertheless leave a lasting emotional impact on loved ones and communities.
